Total Seats and Quotas
According to the BUET circular 2026, the university will admit 1,309 students in total. Among them:
- 1,030 seats are allocated for regular students.
- 4 reserved quota seats are kept for special categories.
The remaining seats are distributed among various departments, including Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, and Architecture.
Selection Process: Top 10,000 Students to Sit for Admission Test
This year, BUET has announced that only the top 10,000 applicants will be allowed to appear in the written admission test. The selection will be based on candidates’ combined marks in Higher Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry from their HSC or equivalent examination.
If two or more candidates obtain the same total marks, preference will be given to the one who has higher marks in Higher Mathematics and Physics respectively.
In case multiple candidates have the same total marks as the 10,000th-ranked student, all of them will be included in the list of eligible applicants.
BUET will not hold any preliminary or short-listing exam this year — instead, eligibility will be based entirely on academic performance and the upcoming written admission test, followed by viva (oral) interviews for final selection.
Eligibility Criteria for BUET Admission 2026
To apply for BUET Admission 2026, candidates must meet the following educational qualifications:
For Bangladeshi Students
- Candidates must have passed SSC/Dakhil/equivalent examination in 2022 or 2023.
- Candidates must have passed HSC/Alim/equivalent examination in 2024 or 2025.
- Must have obtained minimum GPA 4.00 in both SSC and HSC (Science Group).
- Must have achieved GPA 5.00 in HSC/Alim with minimum GP 5.00 in each of Higher Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
For Foreign Board / GCE Candidates
- GCE O-Level: Minimum grade ‘B’ in at least five subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.
- GCE A-Level: Minimum ‘A’ in two of the following subjects — Higher Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and at least ‘B’ in the third subject.
- The top 300 GCE candidates will be shortlisted for the written test based on their A-Level results in Higher Mathematics and Physics.
All applicants from small ethnic groups who meet the minimum requirements will be allowed to sit for the exam.
